Mother Nature’s Burden
Plumes of billowing black smoke fill
the once clear beautiful skies
The color of our house is green
as the temperature continues to rise
What once was only rain now is acid in the clouds’ tears
From our demand for convenience within the last 100 years
Icebergs millions of years old are melting
while the Arctic gets smaller at a rapid pace
Animals that call this home will have to live in a zoo
because soon they will run out of space
At times “El Niño” is sent to wreak havoc as a warning to cease
The deciders ignore the signs while the many pray for peace
Black blood made from animal and plant fat
seems to be the grand prize
Pumped from the Earth’s flesh no matter
the cost in suffering and lives
Who will gain control of her rich crude ancient land?
What will it matter if the end is the destruction of man?
